Technology at the Library
Computers
You do not have to be a Melvindale resident to use our computers, but you must show a library card or valid ID in order to use them.
* Please note that 15 minutes before the library closes, the public computers will shut down.
All of our computers have the following:
- Internet access
- Printing capabilities
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- PowerPoint
- USB ports, enabling you to work with existing data and save your data.
Adult Computers
There are 9 computers available in the adult section for patrons who are 18 and over. To use these computers you must show either your library card or a current ID at the circulation desk. Wired headphones are required for all audio (sorry, no Bluetooth). Headphones are available for purchase at the front desk.
Youth Computers
4 computers are available in the youth section for patrons who are under 18 years of age. To use these computers patrons must show their library card or school I.D, unless a parent is with them. Parents can show their own library card or I.D. for their child to use a computer. Wired headphones are required for all audio.
Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to be in the library without an adult., nor are they able to use computers without an adult present.
ABC Mouse is available for young computer users.
Wi-Fi
Wireless internet is available to all patrons in the library building. Wi-fi is password protected.
Printing and Copies
Printing is:
10¢ per page/side in Black & White
50¢ per page/side in color (Youth & Adult Computers)
Wireless Printing
Wireless printing can be done through the library’s Wi-Fi using patrons’ phones, tablets, or laptops.
Patrons do not need to show I.D. to use wireless printing.
10¢ per page/side in Black & White. You cannot use wireless printing to print in color.
Scanning
Patrons may scan documents to either an email address or a USB drive both in color and black and white
25¢ per page for the first 8 pages. Additional pages are free. – Please ask for assistance
Faxing
$1.00 per page
Faxing is done by library staff.
Cover pages are provided/sent for free.
Sorry, no international faxes.

Melvindale residents over the age of 18 can apply for a temporary library e-card online by filling out this FORM. E-card holders have access to online library services like Libby, Kanopy, and Transparent Language Online.
