DONATING TO THE LIBRARY
Thank you for considering donating to our library!
Book Donations
What do we accept?
We appreciate donated books that are in good, usable condition. However, we do NOT accept: old newspapers, school/college textbooks of any kind, or anything that is wet, bug-ridden, smelly or moldy. If you need a tax receipt, just ask at the front desk when dropping off your items.
Occasionally, the library will be unable to accept donations due to space issues. Please call first before dropping off any donations.
What do we do with the donated books?
Sometimes we add donated books to our collection. This is done at the librarian’s discretion. Other books in usable condition are added to our book sale in the back of the library. Funds from the book sale are used to purchase new items for our collection.
Please do NOT leave donations outside the library!
We ONLY accept donations during open hours. Books left outside often need to be thrown away after being exposed to the elements. Please do not leave donated books outside of the library, or in our drop box.
Please call before you drop off donations to make sure that we have space!
Monetary Donations
Financial donations can be made by cash or check. Funds can be donated to the Library’s general operations or may be designated for a particular area of interest. Funds donated to the Library can be used to support:
• Technology Development
• Children’s Services and prizes
• General Programming
• Collection Development
Tributes
A thoughtful way to remember family and friends or honor a special occasion is to sponsor a program or give the gift of books, music or movies to others. Fill out the Tribute Form and forward to the library. Items will be purchased and a memorial bookplate will be placed inside the items. Contact the library for more information.

Melvindale residents over the age of 18 can apply for a temporary library e-card online by filling out this FORM. E-card holders have access to online library services like Libby, Kanopy, and Transparent Language Online.
