A Short History of the Library
The Melvindale Public Library originated in 1928 and consisted of 500 books located in Mrs. Gardner’s Drug Store on Oakwood Blvd. On February 19, 1929 the collection was moved across the street into a building of its own. The present building was dedicated in 1950 and today the collection numbers well over 30,000 volumes. Melvindale Public Library is a part of The Library Network (TLN), which unites more than 74 libraries throughout Wayne and Oakland county. We share a catalog, with the ability to interloan items from other network libraries. Items can also be returned at any TLN library at no charge to our patrons.
